So Chi Chi home-schools Gohan with amazing results for most of his developing years. Why the hell did she send him to a public high-school at age 17 when he was probably already capable of studying at a university level? Heck, Bulma could have granted him an internship at Capsule Corp. No need for the mind-numbing high-school experience.

I thought she was crazy before she even sent him to high school. But money probably could of been the issue but I don't know why they just didn't ask Bulma for anything like that. I know she would of hooked them up. Maybe it was just best for him to slowly work his way up. 10 years later we see him at his success so I imagine he finished high school, went to college and ended up a scholar like he wanted. Why he didn't just jump right into university level at 17, I really dunno. Edited by Professor Gohan, Sep 2 2012, 05:12 PM.

Their money issues don't make sense either. Many employers would have paid a fortune for Gohan's unique talents, sheer man-power and efficiency. I suspect Chi Chi represents aspects of a troubled woman in Toriyama's personal life. His own mother? I don't know.

Haha well Chi Chi was worried about him being around high school kids how do you think she would feel about him around college kids But her being his mother she probably felt he wasn't ready to make a big jump like that yet. She's the one who watched over him and looked over is shoulder those whole 7 years, mother knows best. Trust me Chi Chi knows best when it comes to Gohan's schooling. And he would't of met his high school sweetheart. Chi Chi made the right decision. |

Well yeah, because it's a story everything turned out perfectly. It does not change the fact that Chi Chi enabled her own families' poverty, yet still complained about it as if it was out of their control or dumped the blame on Goku while he was alive. What exactly was Gohan doing while he wasn't studying? Farting around the woods? Edited by Spirit Metaphor, Sep 2 2012, 05:46 PM.

How was he university level? I thought the exams he scored really highly in were just to get into the last year or 2 of high school? Or maybe Gohan just really wanted to go to high school. (Also why did some guy outside just say his dad wanted to name him Lucy....) |

I think Gohan wanted to go to high school. But he was definitely smart enough for Bulma to just get him a job right then and Capsule Corp. Chi Chi wanted money so bad, well there was an easy way.....plus it'd help the families of Goku & Vegeta to stay in contact better. |

Why is high-school necessary for socializing? |

Gohan loved in the mountains with no one but Chi Chi and Goten. Chi Ci didn't want him socializing with Krillin and Piccolo all the time, Vegeta didn't give a damn, and Trunks was 7. She wanted him to meet teenage friends like Goku had growing up when he met Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, Bulma, and herself . Oh and last but not least Bulma couldn't give Chi Chi GRANDBABIES as that was the only woman Gohan knew to copulate with without there being incest charges The only people Gohan are ever introduced to around his age are Piccolo (4 years older in earth years), Dende (toddler), and that is it in the manga. He is newer introduced to any kids outside filler where he met Lime or the orphans in all his years on earth. Edited by Kblo247, Sep 3 2012, 12:34 PM.

To say that high-school is the only way Gohan could have socialized among new people is to create a false dichotomy.

It's an easy way to socialise though, and with your own age group. Yeh she could send him to a club or something, but it would be awkward since he wouldn't really be able to talk about the things they'd be talking about since he'd have no experience of it. |

The whole point of a club is that the people who join all have a common interest. I would also argue that socializing is a lot more fruitful when it isn't restricted by a particular age group. Discussing life with people who possess more/less experience spreads wisdom, it also reveals plenty of alternate perspectives. Why exactly are we questioning Chi Chi's insanity again? The dumbest thing about chi chi is that she prioritises gohan's studies over the fate of the world, overlooking the fact that if the earth is destroyed then so will all the schools, universities and gohan himself. And why does she insist on making goku drive when he can fly or teleport anywhere? |
